Sokolov - a master of the first half of the XIX century, the founder of the Russian school of watercolor portraiture. In the early period (1810-s - early 1820) for a short time was under the influence of "romantic style" AOOrlovsky actively used juicy texture materials - sauce, and red chalk, soft pastels, which enabled demonstrate possession of the virtuoso drawing and make expressive tone of the sheet. Sokolov skillfully portrays the spiritual quality of their models, however, his art (especially children's portraits) are inherent in external lightness and emotion-sentimental tone. The artistic heritage of the master is large enough, it has more than five hundred watercolor and pencil portraits.
