Born the son of renowned painter, MN Vorobyov. Original art education in the home. In 1833 joined the IAH, studied in a class of landscape and perspective painting, where he continued to engage in under the guidance of his father. For academic work has received three small and one large silver medal. Summer months of 1837 together with another student class, L. H. Frick, worked in the estate of Count AH Benkendorf Fall near Revel. For the execution of scenery there in the same year was awarded a small gold medal. Next summer, also painted landscapes Revel and its environs. In 1838, for the painting "View of the manor Fall Count AH Benkendorf near Revel" was awarded a large gold medal, in 1839 released from the Academy with the rank of class artist and the right of a pensioner's travel abroad.

In 1840, as a pensioner IAH sent to Italy for six years. Lived and worked in Rome and its environs. In 1843 traveled to Naples. From 1844 traveled to Sicily. Stayed in Palermo, where he was the Emperor Nicholas I, who later patronized the artist. By order of Nicholas I created the album of the Italian species.

In 1846 he returned to Russia in the same year was elected an academician "for art and knowledge in landscape painting" without the execution of the program. In 1847, again for two years went to Italy to write patterns on the funds issued from the Cabinet of His Imperial Majesty.

In 1858, Vorobiev was awarded the title of professor in 1859 - Professor of degree 2. From 1856 the summer months spent in his estate Turmont in Lithuania. In 1872, dismissed from the academic life and settled in Turmonte, where he spent his last years.

Vorobiev Socrates - one of the leading masters of landscape painting of the middle - second half of the XIX century, the representative of the academic trend. Favorite motif of his work were the sunset. A significant part of his artistic heritage of Italy and comprises species of the western provinces of Russia, in particular estates Turmont.
