1948-1954 has created an extensive series of illustrations to the novel М. А. Шолохова "virgin soil upturned", which made a trip to the don (several editions, one of them: Sholokhov М. А. Works. M.: Young guard. 1956-1960, 6-7). At the end of his life he worked on a series of illustrations to the poem Н. А. Некрасова "to Whom in Russia to live well" (unfinished, published — 1971).

Carried portraits, landscapes, still lifes, genre scenes; has created several history and autolithographs-революционную theme. In 1935 the task of the organizing Committee of all-Union exhibition "industry of socialism" made a trip to the Urals; the result was a series of drawings "of the home or office Plants" (1936). From 1937 to 1939 and 1940 went to her trips to the farm villages; has created a series of drawings "the collective Farms of Ukraine" and "Selskie steppe". In 1941 he was sent to the Caspian sea, where he drew a series of sketches depicting fishing villages and steppe landscapes ("Caspian Suite", "Astrakhan").

Member of-корреспондент of the USSR Academy of arts, honored art worker of the RSFSR. The artist is devoted to the publication of "Alexey Mikhailovich Laptev" (series "Masters of Soviet art"; M., 1951). The author of the memoirs: "on the way...: notes of a painter" (M., 1972).

a Memorial exhibition of works by Laptev was organized in 1966 in Moscow.

Work is represented in many Museum collections, including the State Tretyakov gallery, the Pushkin Museum im. А. С. Пушкина State Russian Museum and others.
