ZHUTOVSKY Boris Iosifovich

Zhutovsky studied at the Art school, later he entered the faculty of book graphic art at Moscow Polygraphic Institute (the class of A. Goncharov and I. Chekmazov). In 1956 he graduated from the Institute and then he worked in the Urals and in Sverdlovsk. At that time he was under the influence of the oldest painter and pedagogue D. Arkhangelsky.

In 1957 Boris Zhutovsky returned to Moscow, worked in several Moscow publishing houses as an illustrator and book designer.

From late 1950s till 1962 Zhutovsky attended E. Belyutin’s studio. Since 1959 he began to participate in exhibitions of painting and graphic art in the USSR, later his works were shown in different museums and galleries all over the world.

After participation of the artist in the exhibition 30 years of MOSKh (Moscow Section of the Union of Artists) in the Manezh in December 1962, and after the scandal with N. S. Khrushchev, Zhutovsky had no opportunity to exhibit his works in USSR at all any more.

Since 1964–1965 his works were shown in the galleries and museums all over the world. The works were exposed in Helsinki (Finland); Toronto (Canada); Rome, Florence, Venice, L'Aquila (Italy); Prague, Bratislava, Gdańsk, Sopot, Poznań, Zielona Góra (Poland); Frankfurt am Main, Stuttgart, Bochum (Federal Republic of Germany); Barcelona (Spain); Lugano, Zurich (Switzerland); Paris, Montereau (France); London (Great Britain); Leipzig (German Democratic Republic); New York, Los Angeles (USA) and others.
