Painter, graphic artist

From a peasant family; orphaned early, was brought up in an orphanage. In his youth he worked as a farmhand, shepherd, a delivery man. Painting and drawing began to be engaged independently. Studied in VKhUTEMAS — Vhuteine in Moscow (1924-1930) П. В. Кузнецова, В. А. Фаворского, Н. М. Чернышева, К. Н. Истомина. In 1930 выполнил thesis, "a Haymaking".

he Lived in Moscow. Painted genre and thematic paintings on the theme of farm life, landscapes, still lifes. In 1935 добился Union and European fame painting "lunch mothers" (1935), awarded the gold medal at the world exhibition in Paris (1937).

Worked in the field of monumental painting. Completed mural club "Proletarian" in Moscow (1930); with А. А. Пластовым and А. П. Бубновым worked on the creation of the panel "the Noble people of the Country of Soviets" for the Soviet pavilion at the world exhibition in new-Йорке (1939).

From 1928 — participated in exhibitions. Member OMAHRR (1928-1929), akhr (1929-1931), the Russian Association of proletarian artists (1931-1932), the Union of artists of the USSR (1932). Exhibited: "the Life of children of the Soviet Union" (1929), "anti-imperialist exhibition dedicated to international Red day", "art of the third, decisive year of the five-year plan" (both — 1931), "XV years of the red army" (1933), "Artists of the RSFSR for XV years" (1933-1934), all-Union art exhibitions (1939, "the industry of socialism"; 1947, 1949, 1950, 1957, 1961), exhibition of Moscow artists during the great Patriotic war (1942), The "great Patriotic war" (1943), "Soviet Russia" (1960) in Moscow and others.

Member of-корреспондент Academy of arts of the USSR (1954), honored artist of the RSFSR (1955), people's artist of the RSFSR (from 1968).

Work is represented in many Museum collections, including the State Tretyakov gallery, the State Russian Museum, the Museum of Russian art in Kiev and others.
