In the late period Bubnov wrote and landscapes, and genre scenes: "Evening at the plow" (1959-1960), "On the field" (1959-1960), "Autumn" (1961-1962); turned to book illustration: made drawings for books by Gogol, Taras Shevchenko, Pushkin and other classics.

Bubnov in 1954 was awarded the title Honored Artist of the RSFSR, and became a corresponding member of USSR Academy of Arts.
