From a family of hereditary architects of Italian origin; grandson of Joseph (Giuseppe) Bernardazzi, the son of Alexander Iosifovich (Osipovich) Bernardazzi, engaged in the construction of Chisinau and Odessa; brother Evgeny Nikolayevich Bernardazzi. He studied at the Higher art school of painting, sculpture and architecture under the Imperial Academy of arts (1896-1903); in 1903 for the project of the concert hall on 2 500 человек received the title of artist-архитектора.
