From a family of teachers. He graduated from the art school in Kishinev (1910); in 1912-1914 studied at the National school of fine arts in Paris. He lived in the colony of artists La Ruche ("Beehive"), was familiar with many artists, in particular with М. З. Шагалом.

After his return he lived in Petrograd and Vitebsk. Participated in festive decoration of Vitebsk for the first anniversary of the October revolution. Served as the scenery for the municipal theater of Vitebsk.

In 1924 he settled in Minsk. Worked in the field of easel sculpture. He created portraits of К. Маркса (1920-1921), Ф. Скорины (1925), С. М. Михоэлса (1926), Я. Купалы (about 1926), В. И. Ленина (1932), С. М. Кирова (1937). The author of the monument-бюста И.-Г. Песталоцци in Vitebsk (1919-1920, not preserved). Participated in competition on a monument on the theme "Liberation of Western Belarus by the red Army" (1940). Created a series of paintings, particularly the portrait Ю. М. Пэна (1921), "Shooting in Decorah in 1920 году", "Churn" (1928).

From 1913 — participated in exhibitions. Exhibited at the Autumn salon in Paris (1913). Member of the Bessarabian society of art lovers (1900-е), Jewish society for the encouragement of arts (1918), all-Belarusian Association of artists (1927-1930), the Union of artists of BSSR (1940). Participated in the exhibitions "World of art" in Petrograd (1917); 1-й State exhibition of paintings by local and Moscow artists in Vitebsk (1919); 1-й (1925), 2-й (1927), 3-й (1929), 4-й (1931), 5-й (1932) the all-Belarusian art exhibitions, "Artists of the BSSR for XV years" (1934), "the BSSR for XX years" (1937) in Minsk; the jubilee exhibition of art of the peoples of the USSR (1927), Belarusian art (fine arts Belarus; 1935, 1939, 1940), best works of Soviet artists (1941) in Moscow; prints and drawings of artists of Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Russia and Ukraine in Kiev (1928) and others. His personal exhibitions were held in Vitebsk (1922), Minsk (1941).

he Taught at the Vitebsk people's art College (1918-1923). She also taught at the Studio for deaf children in Vitebsk.

the Honored worker of arts of the BSSR. During the great Patriotic war and the Nazi occupation of Minsk participated in the Resistance. Was shot in the Minsk ghetto.

Work is represented in several Museum collections, among them — smfa. А. С. Пушкина State art Museum of the Republic of Belarus in Minsk, Vitebsk regional Museum of local lore.
