he Studied at the Kiev art school (1912-1917) Ф. Г. Кричевского and the Ukrainian Academy of arts (1917).

In 1918-1922 he lived in Kiev; engaged in industrial and book graphics. In 1923 he moved to Leningrad. He continued his education in Vhuteine (mid 1920-х) Д. И. Митрохина. Worked mainly in the technique of woodcuts. Collaborated in publishing GIZ, Academia, Goslitizdat. Illustrated books: "the Miners" Э. Золя (1930); "Player" (1930), "Meek" (1933) Ф. М. Достоевского; "Dead souls" (1930), "Taras Bulba" (1934) Н. В. Гоголя; "the old Man" (1930), "Cities and years" (1931) К. А. Федина "the Story of the past" В. Н. Давыдова (1931); "Mother" А. М. Горького (1933, 1935 — with the album), "the tempest" У. Шекспира, "Young Jean Christophe" Р. Роллана; participated in the design of the jubilee album: "100 лет. Alexandrinsky theatre Hostami. 1832-1932" (L., 1932). Carried out a large number of book covers and decorations.

In 1930 he received 3-ю prize at the drawing competition for postage stamps ("Airship above the mausoleum В. И. Ленина" and others). Was engaged in ex-libris.

From 1925 — participated in exhibitions. A member and Exhibitor associations: "Community of artists" (1925), Association of artists-графиков at the printing House (1928). Participated in exhibitions: "Graphic art in the USSR. 1917-1928 гг." (1927), "Art ex libris" (1928), "the Engraving and lithography of Leningrad artists" (1933) in Leningrad; the all-Union printing exhibition (1927), "Artists of the RSFSR for XV years" (1934) in Moscow; prints and drawings of artists of Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Russia and Ukraine in Kiev (1928); Ukrainian book graphic art in Kharkov (1929), the modern Ukrainian graphics in Lviv (1932). The Exhibitor of several foreign exhibitions: international exhibition "the Art book" in Leipzig (1927), "Contemporary book art" at the international press exhibition in Cologne (1928).

Died of tuberculosis. Memorial exhibition of the artist was held in Leningrad in 1934. Activities Alexeev edition: "Н. В. Алексеев, 1894-1934. Collection to the memory of artist" (Moscow, 1936).

Work is represented in many Museum collections, among them — smfa. А. С. Пушкина.
