the Nephew and disciple of И. И. Левитана the son of his older sister Theresa; brother of the collector, antique dealer З. П. Бирчанского, the owner of an antique store on Boulevard Haussmann in Paris; artist Л. П. Бирчанского.

In 1908-1912 he exposed his works at exhibitions in St. Petersburg. About 1920 he emigrated, he lived in Paris. He painted landscapes, still lifes in the impressionistic style. From 1935 exhibited in the salons: Autumn, Tuileries, Independent. Participant of exhibitions of Russian artists, organized by the Union of Soviet patriots (1945, 1947). Held a solo exhibition in the gallery "Charpentier" in Paris (1935, 1937), "P. Loujetzky" in the Hague (1938).

he was Buried in the cemetery at Issy-ле-Мулино near Paris. Posthumous retrospective exhibition was held in gallery "Bernheim-Jeune" (1955).

Work is represented in several Museum collections, among them — Chuvash state art Museum in Cheboksary.
