Born into an artistic family, the father of Nijinsky - Thomas (Tomas) Lavrent'evich was a dancer and choreographer of ballet, the mother Eleonora reopen - opera singer. In his childhood with his parents arrived in St. Petersburg and was established on the ballet department of Imperial College.

Since 1907 - soloist of the Imperial Theaters in 1911 - non-repertory of Sergei Diaghilev. Statements in the first Russian season in Paris (ballet "Les Sylphides", "Cleopatra", "Le Pavillon d'Armide", "Scheherazade") brought him international fame. In 1912 became a non-repertory choreographer Mikhail Fokine. In 1913 he married the Hungarian dancer Romola Pula, which led to a breakdown in the relationship with Diaghilev and care of non-repertory. In early 1917 he was again invited by Diaghilev, but the progressive mental illness put an end to his artistic career.

In 1920 alone to draw with preferred color ink, watercolor and pastel. In 1932, Pula organized an exhibition of abstract paintings lunatic Nijinsky in the gallery "Ledzhett" in New York. In 1937 went solo exhibitions of works in his Swiss home and gallery "Storran" in London.
