he Studied at the Imperial Academy of arts (1872-1882, with a break), in the class of landscape painting in М. К. Клодта. In the late 1870-х was expelled from St. Petersburg in the case of the people of Kargopol in the Olonets province; in a few years he received permission to return to St. Petersburg and resumed his studies at the Imperial Academy of arts. In 1882 he received the title neklassnogo (free) artist.

Lived in St. Petersburg. Worked primarily as a landscape painter and genre painter. Reproductions of his works were published in the magazine "Niva". Created illustrations for the edition: "the Complete works" Н. В. Гоголя (St. Petersburg, 1900, vol. 1-12), released in the publishing house А. Ф. Маркса.

Exhibited at exhibitions TPHV (1887-1918, with interruptions), the Moscow society of art lovers (1890), the society of South Russian artists (1895); participated in all-Russian artistic and industrial exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod (1896).

Work is represented in several Museum collections, among them — of the State Tretyakov gallery, Vyatka art Museum. В. М. and А. М. Васнецовых Nizhny Tagil Museum of fine arts.
