Biography

DEINEKO Olga Konstantinovna

1897 (Chernigovshchina) — 1970 (Moscow)

Olga Deineko studied at the College of technical drawing of Baron Alexander Stieglitz (1916–1918), at the Higher State Artistic and Technical Workshops (VKhUTEMAS) under the guidance of N. N. Kupreyanov and V. A. Favorsky (1919–1923).

Deineko was a member of the Association of revolution poster art workers (1931–1932).

Olga Deineko drew sketches of folk ornaments, costumes and objects of peasant life in Kursk and Orel provinces (1920s, Dmitrov inter-district museum of local history, Kursk province). She also created posters in 1920s–1930s. Deineko wrote several children’s books and drew illustrations for them (in collaboration with her husband N. S. Troshin): How beet became sugar (Moscow, 1927), How cotton became calico (Moscow, 1929), Bread-baking plant No. 3, From rubber to galosh (Moscow, 1930) and others. Deineko took part in design of many magazines.

Since 1932 Deineko drew a lot of watercolor series. The most famous of them was the series Laundresses.

In 1960s Deineko was a scene-designer at the All-Russia Exhibition Centre (VDNKh).

Since 1932 Deineko began to participate in different exhibitions. She exposed her works in the exhibition of poster art 10 years without Lenin on the Leninist way (1934, Moscow); the first exhibition of watercolor painting of Moscow artists (1937, Moscow); the exhibition of graphic art of Moscow artists (1939, Arkhangelsk); the 6th exhibition of the Union of Moscow artists (1939, Moscow); exhibition of drawings and watercolors (together with N. S. Troshin, 1946, Moscow); Moscow regional art exhibition, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Soviet power (1947, Moscow); the exhibition of painting, sculpture, graphic and decorative arts of women artists, dedicated to the International Women’s Day the 8th of March (1948, Moscow).
