MMSI continues to acquaint with the history of Russian video art

Video - this is the artistic means of a global village. Since its birth in the United States 40 years ago, it rose to the level of leadership in the genre of artistic production today - and it is precisely this that allows you to integrate art into a global context, making it the format of a regional phenomenon.

«The history of Russian video art. Volume 1, 2, 3 »- this is a large-scale project, which gives a broad picture for the understanding of how video art has evolved in Russia since its inception in the mid 1980's and to this day. By its design this educational project, it aims to acquaint the audience with Russia is not well known in the history of modern Russian art, while the role of this part of the culture can be described as the paramount in importance.

Videoart appeared in Russia at a time when contemporary art, emerging from underground penumbra, shown at the beginning of the first independent exhibition venues.

In fact, the video more than any other artistic means provides uncompromising artist image of a key period when the Soviet times, followed by post-Soviet. Video was new as fast as news to the general public turned contemporary art in general. In the video there was no tradition of either fight or disagree. This was the territory of pure experiment, who did not know the impact of commercial art-market strategies. In other words, it means total freedom with which an artist could express their views and give voice to their inner experiences. Years later, progressively becoming more complex, the video continues to broadcast uncompromising image of the artist.

«The history of Russian video art» has a three parts, each formed as a separate exhibit. «Volume 1» was performed in January 2007 and gave a tour of the very first years of video art as a practice in Russia (1985-1999). The second exhibition will present a period of full maturity and acceptance of video art (1995-2005). The third exhibition, scheduled for spring 2010, the viewer will have to deal with the latest video (2000-2010).

«Volume 2» was called as the previous one, in the Moscow Museum of Modern Art in Ermolaevsky Lane. Will show about 40 works (single video, multichannel installations, interactive installations, videoskulptury and so on) that are the best in the field of video, created in 1995-2005.

«Volume 2» will also include a section on critical analysis of the earliest videos, which was established in Russia, which has been shown in the exhibition «Volume 1». This section is popularly explains why the video is it so important in contemporary culture and what impact each has had on the work of art discourse.

Exhibition «The history of Russian video art. Volume 2 », prepared by the curator Antonio Dzheuzoy, starting March 25 and will run until May 3. During her work will be organized meetings with the authors of works, master classes and tours.
