Sonia Delaunay Turk (nee Sarah Elievna Stern) was born in 1885 in Gradizk (Poltava province). As a youth she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe, and in 1905 settled in Paris, where she studied at the Academy of La pallets. In the capital of France, she became acquainted with the art dealer and collector William Ude, who became her first husband. But it was a marriage of convenience: Ude thanks Sonia was able to get acquainted with many famous artists, and stay in Paris (home demanding to return to Russia) and her husband married in order to conceal their homosexual orientation. But this marriage proved short: a young artist soon found a man who became her true love. In 1910 she married a budding painter Robert Delaunay, with whom she has developed an entirely new style of painting - orfizm (or simultanizm). In his paintings Delone wife tried to show momentum, all the subtleties of color harmony. At this time, Sonia Delaunay became enthusiastic for the creation of drawings on fabric, embroidery and interior decoration, making his home in the art object.
