Treasures from the attic of the Dukes of Devonshire at Sotheby's

This fall, Sotheby's will hold a unique auction in one of the most luxurious country residences of England - Chatsworth in Derbyshire. "Chatsworth: dormer trades" - a three-day Auction to present the real treasures of "Aladdin's cave" with a wide range of prices (estimate of lots range from 20 pounds to 200,000 pounds), where every object can tell their story. Moreover, the top lot of these trades - a collection of unique architectural details of interior decoration, whose existence had been forgotten for a long time.

the auction will be submitted about 20,000 items and 1,400 lots totaling 2.5 million pounds. Gathered in one place, they will travel back in time - from the XVI century to our days, reviving memories of the place and the people who for generations were the glory of this glamorous family.

pre-auction Exhibition will be held October 1-4, in the same place on October 5-7, then held an auction, - "in the delightful park and in the most beautiful in the world of the palace" (Daniel Defoe).

Items that will be presented at the auction (refined carving fireplaces and trim, doors and locks), were found under a thick layer of dust in the attic room Chatsworth Hausa. Once they adorned the famous mansions that were part of the brilliant history of the family of the Dukes of Devonshire. This - Chatsworth House, the mansion Chisvik, Hardwick Hall, Lismore Castle, Compton Place, Bolton Abbey and the magnificent residence of the Devonshire House in Piccadilly, which for centuries has been the epicenter of political and cultural elite of London.

Here is what he said the Duke of Devonshire on the upcoming auction: "After moving several years ago in Chatsworth House, we discovered that the attic room filled up with objects originating from different homes of our family and she belonged for several generations. However, Sotheby's, we began the long process of selection of these items for sale. This will allow us to create better conditions for life in a number of rooms in a house. Like those who wait this show in October, I have no incomparable joy to return to the past, re-touch with the history of my family through these artifacts and treasures of Devonshire Hausa, hidden from the eyes of nearly a century. The proceeds will be used for the resettlement of Chatsworth as well as our other possessions, and we are delighted that the sale of these items from the attic will accelerate this process ».

Vice Chairman and CEO of Sotheby's, United Kingdom Harry Dalmeny said : "attic Chatsworth became for us a place wonderful trip. After reviewing thousands of items to select for the auction, we got a rare opportunity to re-connect long-forgotten items from their remarkable past. Stories Devonshire family homes once again united as a bizarre puzzle. The discovery of this treasure, as part of interior design sketches of one of the greatest British architect and designer William Kent for the London mansion Devonshire - a dream every historian of architecture. And its sale - a unique opportunity to become the owner of the rare examples of the work's brilliant British architect, is not repeated in his work, except as listed here mansions. These rare objects, which appear at auction, becoming the owner of unique treasures of the famous family. Moreover, their sale will almost exactly recreate many rooms in which flowed a brilliant life Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire ».
