Therefore, the Egyptian government demanded Nefertiti's return to his homeland on the grounds that she left the country illegally. This is going to deny the German expert, who, according to Hawass, must bring proof of legal acquisition of the sculpture.

Egypt demanded the restitution of the first bust in 1930, but the authorities in Germany permanently refused. Now the Berlin Museum agrees to transfer Nefertiti in Cairo, even at the time, arguing the fragility of the work.
