In Nizhny Novgorod opened Museum of Western Art
On the map of Russia is a new art-point - in Nizhny Novgorod on Wednesday officially opened the Museum of Western European art, which is located in a restored mansion of the last pre-revolutionary mayor and the richest shipowner Dmitry Sirotkina.
As told RIA Novosti the museum's director, Marina Bratanova, now in the permanent exhibition presents about 300 works of art, among them - the work of Tintoretto, El Greco, Giuseppe Crespi, Giovanni Battista Piranesi, a collection of Western prints XVII-XIX centuries and objects of decorative art, including Meissen and Sevres porcelain.
basis of the collection, which totals more than 2000 exhibits, as in most Russian museums, are nationalized private collections - Sheremetevs, Orlov-Davydov, Abamelek-Lazarev. In addition, in 1930 the museum was transferred to a work of art from the Hermitage and the Pushkin Museum of AS Pushkin, and in the postwar years - "trophy" collection, which later was aimed at the restoration of the Center named after I. Grabar. According Bratanova, a new exhibition became part of the restored works from this collection. Later, there will appear a work of art from China and Japan XV-XX centuries.
specifically for the museum was reconstructed in its original conception mansion built in 1916 on the draft Vesnin brothers. For 17 years and 80 million rubles conservators restored the murals, the front oak stairs and halls with gilded stucco decoration and marble columns. "Sirotkin originally intended to bequeath his house into a museum, so the architects had to make a lot of creative energy to meet the demands of our customers", - said the museum director. She believes that ultimately the sponsors managed to do it in full: building was "easy, graceful and organic in form and compositions».
In the nearest plans of the museum - the organization of exhibitions of contemporary Russian and foreign artists, as well as cooperation with private collectors, one of which has already provided for exhibiting painting by Claude Monet "Cliff in Purville».
