In Los Angeles stole the 11 portraits by Andy Warhol
Eleven paintings by Andy Warhol (Andy Warhol) were stolen from the mansion collector Richard Wiseman (Richard Weisman) in Los Angeles. Ten of them are well-known series of images of famous athletes: soccer players Pele (Pele) and Simpson (OJ Simpson), boxer Muhammad Ali (Muhammad Ali), and others had also been kidnapped by a portrait of the owner.
discovered the loss on September 3 housekeeper Vaisman. Entering the dining room, she found that 11 large-format paintings hanging on the walls have disappeared. The owner left the house the day before, so it is unclear exactly when the robbery was committed.
housekeeper immediately called the police. According to Detective Donald Gritsik (Donald Hrycyk), section chief of the Los Angeles police for crimes in the sphere of art, no signs of cracking were found. In their place were other valuable items that were in the house, including several paintings hanging in the dining room.
no clues and suspects from the police yet. There is only an inaccurate description of the van maroon color, which, according to one witness, could be on the driveway of a home around the time when the theft occurred.
for information that will help recover the stolen paintings, announced a reward of one million dollars.
investigation difficult and yet another circumstance. The fact that Warhol created several series of portraits of athletes, differing only in color scheme. They are all very similar, and even the very Vaisman kept several of these "kits". Donald Gritsik reported that police are now identifying other existing copies. This will avoid possible confusion, and determine exactly what the paintings were stolen. The results of the work will report to the FBI and Interpol, who have a database with information about stolen works of art.
Total cost of stolen portraits have not yet determined. As noted by Tyler Lemkin (Tyler Lemkin), director of the Greenfield Sacks Gallery in Santa Monica, which recently opened an exhibition of Warhol prints, as a rule, original paintings of the author, such as those that were stolen, worth at least a million dollars.
Richard Weisman comes from a famous family of collectors. His parents, Frederick and Marcia (Frederick, Marcia) were well known in art circles and has gathered an impressive collection of postwar art. Richard himself was a friend of Warhol and in the late 1970's he commissioned a series of silkscreen portraits of famous athletes. At that time, the artist often worked in order for wealthy clients who were willing to pay him royalties impressive.
