Russian and German researchers will look «trophy art»
As reports Bloomberg, recently in Moscow, a conference of museum professionals and art historians of Russia and Germany
27 and 28 February in Moscow, a conference that brought together some 120 representatives of museums and art historians from Russia and Germany. They called on the authorities of both countries to help them find the artwork and other treasures, which, during the Great Patriotic War have been displaced by Soviet and German troops.
On the agenda was the issue of facilitating access to the archives to researchers have been able to obtain new data that has been removed. The conference issued a statement which called on the governments of both countries to finance the establishment of a Joint Committee. The task of this committee will include the coordination of research and combining databases of stolen objects.
Under the leadership of Stalin's trophy committee of Germany at the end of the war were taken about two and a half million works of art. One and a half million Soviet authorities decided to give East Germany, and the rest of it was never returned. Under Russian law, those trophies belong to the Russian state.
Some of the treasures stolen from Russia Nazis, is the famous Amber Room, donated by Peter I the Prussian king Friedrich Wilhelm I. It was early in the Catherine Palace of Tsarskoe Selo. German soldiers dismantled the room and sent it to Königsberg. In 1945, she disappeared without trace.
In the Moscow conference was attended by representatives of the State Hermitage Museum, State Art Collections of Dresden and the Conference of the material claims of Jews to Germany.
