53rd Venice Biennale create new worlds
The curator of the 53rd Venice Biennale described the structure and composition of the exhibition in 2009
Geography of the Venice Biennale is expanding. By the 53rd international exhibition, which opens June 7th, 2009, joined by six new countries: Andorra, Gabon, Montenegro, Pakistan, Philippines, Monaco, South Africa and UAE. Iran, Morocco, New Zealand and San Marino, the work of its artists at the last Biennale, and will continue to participate next year.
Last week, the curator of the 53rd Venice Biennale, Daniel Birnbaum (Daniel Birnbaum) announced that it will be called Making Worlds (Creating worlds). He also talked about the thematic structure of the exhibition: to divide it into sections of the organizers do not plan, the exposition will present three topics that will intertwine into one coherent whole. The first of these will bring viewers to the process of creativity and learning, brings to the studio or artist's studio. «A work of art is not simply an object or a product - Birnbaum explained. - It reflects a certain vision of the author of the world, and because ... in some ways it can be seen as" the creation of the world "».
The second topic will cover the Biennale continuity of generations and the relationship between the world's leading artists. «This part of the exhibition will be based on several historical references - told Birnbaum. - The roots of the arts continue to operate. They provide energy branches of the tree, and including a new "escape" - to what appears now. I would like to trace the sources of inspiration, which cover several generations ».
The third theme Birnbaum decided to traditional visual media such as drawing and painting. According to the curator, the focus on the creative process, as well as the presence at the exhibition of new art forms, like video and installation, should not exclude the paintings and graphic works.
