Collection Stolen Works
In 2006, after the death of the New York art dealer William Kingslenda (William Kingsland), in his apartment was found a large collection of works of art. Kingslend was known as a great connoisseur of art, literature, architecture and genealogy. But he was very secretive man. Despite the fact that Kingslenda was a lot of friends, he is rarely invited to be guests. Kingslend nobody was talking about his family and his childhood. We know it was only that he grew up in the Bronx. It's really his name was Melvyn Kohn (Melvyn Kohn), the name «William Kingslend» he chose presumably due to the fact that it sounded more «literary».
Kingslenda The collection includes more than 300 works, including works by Pablo Picasso (Pablo Picasso), Alberto Giacometti (Alberto Giacometti), Giorgio Morandi (Giorgio Morandi), and Eugène Budena (Eugene Boudin). The collector has not left a will, and his heirs were not. New York authorities have decided to sell works of art with the public auction, and they gave Christie's auction houses and Stair Galleries. Those started to investigate the provenans work ... and found that many of them have long been reported in the lists of stolen works of art. According to the FBI, at least 20 works from the collection Kingslenda were stolen from the present owners in the 1960's and 1970's. These include a bust of the great sculptor Alberto Giacometti, which is estimated at one million dollars. The FBI could not yet say whether Kingslend anything to do with theft.
Interesting fact: after the death of Kingslenda his entire collection was moved to the warehouse, and employees engaged in the carriage works, pull off two Picasso drawings worth 30 thousand dollars each ... criminals caught. And now it turned out that they stole stolen: drawings were stolen from a New York gallery of about 1967.
FBI posted on its website photographs of works from the collection Kingslenda - perhaps this will help to establish the owners of many of these works. There is little doubt that the stolen works in the collection is not 20, and much more.
