YAKOVLEV Gavriil Ivanovich

Painter, graphic artist

From the townspeople. He studied at the Imperial Academy of arts (1830-е) as volnoprihodyaschego student. In 1839, for "portrait of an old man, painted from life" received the title neklassnogo (free) artist.

Lived in St. Petersburg. Served as a teacher of drawing and sketching in St-Петербургском Vladimir district school (1842-1846). He worked primarily as a portraitist, has created the image of the Church. In 1852 was awarded "designated" in academics, in 1853 — awarded the title of academician for the portrait Ф. А. Бруни.

In the mid 1850-х — early 1860-х he supervised the interior decoration of the Cathedral of the resurrection (Novodevichy) convent in St. Petersburg, at the same time taught the sisters of the monastery of painting. In 1861, this work was awarded the order of St. Stanislaus 3-й degree.

Works are in many regional Museum collections, including the Chelyabinsk regional picture gallery, the Museum of fine arts of the Republic of Karelia, the Stavropol regional Museum of fine arts and others.
