born in the family artisan cartwright shop. In 1886-1890 he studied at the Voronezh district school. Took private drawing lessons from LG Solovyov. In 1894, he joined a volunteer in VHU (Higher Art School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture) at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. Engaged in Repin's studio. He painted genre and battle paintings, created decorative panels, worked as a book and magazine illustrator.
