the Artist of theater and cinema, painter, graphic artist, architect

the son of the publisher, General-майора А. Н. Альмедингена; the brother of teacher, interpreter Н. А. Альмединген-Тумим. He studied at the Higher art school of painting, sculpture and architecture under the Imperial Academy of arts (1906-1915), at the architectural Department at Л. Н. Бенуа. In 1915 he received the title of artist-архитектора. At the same time from 1908 he worked at the Mariinsky theatre, was an assistant А. Я. Головина.

Lived in St. Petersburg (Petrograd, Leningrad). In 1917 he made his debut as an independent theatre artist, he designed the staging of drama Л. Н. Андреева "Cute ghosts" at the Alexandrinsky theatre.

In the late 1910's-х — 1930-х designed productions in theaters of Petrograd — Leningrad, Minsk and Kharkov. He performed sketches of costumes and scenery for the productions: "Case", "Tarelkin's Death" А. В. Сухово-Кобылина (both — 1918), "Conspiracy of Fiesco" Ф. Шиллера (1920), "uncle's dream" by Ф. М. Достоевскому (1923), "Prince Pozharsky" М. В. Крюковского (1935) at the Academic theatre of drama; "Romeo and Juliet" Ш. Гуно (1920, 1955), "La Traviata" by G. Verdi. Verdi (1923, 1952), "Young guard" Ю. С. Мейтуса (1950) at the Maly theatre of Opera and ballet; "Royal Barber" А. В. Луначарского (1921), "dog the gardener" by Lope de VEGA (1921) at the Comedy Theatre (all — Petrograd — Leningrad); "Mastersingers" Р. Вагнера (1926), "don Quixote" Л. Ф. Минкуса (1926) in the Kharkov theatre of Opera and ballet; "Tartuffe" Ж.-Б. Мольера (1934) in Belarusian theatre of working youth in Minsk.

Participated in the design of the film Studio Sovkino: "Rivals" С. Ф. Шишко (1926), "the Whirlpool" П. П. Петрова-Бытова (1927), "Blizzard" Ч. Г. Сабинского (1927), "Asya" А. В. Ивановского (1928) and other; complied with the movie times.

the Author of the picturesque landscapes of Pushkin places (Mikhailovskoye, Trigorskoye). Created the project of reconstruction of the cinema "Piccadilly" (1923-1924, now — "Aurora").

From 1915 — participant of exhibitions (exhibition of the Imperial Academy of arts in Petrograd). Participated in exhibitions: sketches of theatrical scenery and decorative papers workshop of the Institute for 1918-1922 годы (1922), "the theatrical Exhibition-декорационного art. 1917 — X — 1927" (1927), "Artists of the Soviet theatre (1917-1935)" (1935), "М. Ю. Лермонтов. To 125-летию birthday" (1939), works by Leningrad artists (1940, 1945, 1952, 1955, 1956) in Leningrad; "Artists of the Soviet theatre for XVII years" (1935) in Moscow. Held a personal exhibition in Leningrad (1949).

Author of several articles, essays and memoirs, books of "Golovin and Chaliapin: a night under the roof of the Mariinsky theatre" (Leningrad, 1958).

he was Buried at the Bolsheokhtinsky cemetery in St. Petersburg. A memorial exhibition was held in 1961 (Leningrad).

Work is represented in many Museum collections, among them — State Central theatre Museum. А. А. Бахрушина.
