he Studied at the Higher art school of painting, sculpture and architecture under the Imperial Academy of arts (1913-1917), in the Studio Г. Р. Залемана. In the First world war served as an officer in a hussar regiment.

In 1920 emigrated to the U.S.; lived in Boston, then in new-Йорке, in 1925 he took U.S. citizenship. In 1926-1932 he lived and worked in Paris, 1932-1934 — in Los-Анджелесе.

Engaged primarily in easel sculpture. In 1920-е created a flat decorative figures of animals made of stone, turned to stylization in the spirit of antiquity. Later moved on to an academic manner. Created symbolic figures and groups, women's and children's heads from the traditional (marble, granite, wood, ivory) and rare materials (slate, tin, onyx, jade). Performed sculptural portraits Ф. И. Шаляпина (1939), А. Тосканини, А. Эйнштейна, members of the Italian Royal house (1930-е).

Created a number of monumental works, notably the monument А. Линкольну in DECATUR (Illinois; opened in 1946), the busts of the us President Ф. Д. Рузвельта (1949), as well as Д. Эйзенхауэра, Charles de Gaulle, Д. Ф. Даллеса (1959) to Paris. Was awarded for the project of the monument to the U.S. military at Fort McKinley in the Philippines (1955). Completed busts Д. Ф. Даллеса for the Washington airport. DULLES (1963), and Д. Кеннеди for Brandeis University near Chicago (1965).

Performed a lot of drawings from the late 1920-х was active in lithography. In the easel chart applied to biblical stories ("Adam and eve", "Crucifixion"), creating a symbolic composition, sketches of naked; paid special attention to plasticity of the human body and movement.

In the later period (1950-60-е) from-за inability due to illness to actively engage in sculpture turned to painting (oil, gouache, watercolor). Created semi-abstract and abstract compositions ("Light through the trees", "Sunrise", "Candles", "Reflections", "Love", "Crashing waves"), based on a combination of bright colorful spots, which are more typical of the lyricism and quiet contemplation, rather than the expression of his earlier sculptural and graphic works.

he Exhibited his works at the Autumn salon and the salon des Tuileries (1926, 1929). His personal exhibitions were held in the Boston gallery "Grace horn" (1920), new-йоркских galleries "Reinhardt" (1925), "J. Seligmann" (1927), "Grand Central Palace" (1928), "Wildenstein" (1931, 1934, 1938, 1940, 1945, 1954), "World House" (1963), the Art Institute in Chicago (1932, 1940), Syracuse University (1967), as well as in Milwaukee, Caracas, London, Philadelphia, and Manila.
