he Studied at the Academy of arts in Cracow (1909) Я. Малешевского and Й. Мехоффера; for student work was awarded a silver medal. Participated in the First world war in the ranks of the Austrian army (1914-1918); was wounded and was in hospital in Vienna.

he Lived in Chernivtsi (1919-1931), Paris (1931). He painted portraits, landscapes, still lifes, genre scenes; was influenced М. З. Шагала; often turned to Jewish topics (specific types, musicians, types of places).

was Engaged in book graphics; worked a lot in the technique of woodcuts. He drew illustrations to many works of Jewish, Russian and European literature, in particular to the books "Alefbeys" Э. Штейнбарга (1921), "City profile" Я. М. Штернберга (1938), "the Legend of the Grand Inquisitor" Ф. М. Достоевского (1946), "Metamorphosis one melody" И. Л. Перетса (1948) and others. Has released an album of woodcuts, "Through the lens" (1928), accompanied by fables Э. Штейнбарга, "the Recitation Hertz Grosbard" (1933). Completed portrait (1929) and tombstone on the grave Э. Штейнбарга in Chernivtsi (1932). Collaborated in the magazines "Nos artistes", "Verbe — Cahiers Humains" and others.

during the Second world war together with his family was interned (1940); was in a camp for stateless people, released in 1944. In 1945, he adopted French citizenship. Member of the Association of Jewish painters and sculptors in France. In 1955 he received for his graphic work prize of Shaban in new-Йорке. The last years of his long life were in Israel.

Participated in an art exhibition in the crafts Museum (1918), Spring exhibition of art Association (1922) in Chernivtsi, under the patronage of the Romanian Minister of culture in the "Anderson Galleries" in new-Йорке (1921; with Р. Рубинным). Exhibited in the salon des Tuileries (1930-1939). His personal exhibitions were held in Chernivtsi (1926), the Art Museum of tel-Авива (1968).

In 1967 М. Готье released in Paris a monograph about the artist.

Work is represented in many Museum collections, including at the Jewish Museum in new-Йорке.
