he Studied at the Samara art College (from 1918) М. И. Степанова in the Studio Д. Н. Кардовского in Moscow (1923-1929).

From 1931 he lived in Leningrad. Was married to the painter Д. М. Астаповой.

was Engaged in easel graphics, poster, book illustration; worked in the technique of lithography, he executed a number of paintings (views of Leningrad and surrounding area, 1930-е). During the great Patriotic war remained in the besieged Leningrad. It was one of the organizers of the satirical piece "Fighting pencil" (1941-1943); has created a series of drawings on the Leningrad front. Performed a series of autolithographs: "Magnitogorsk — forge arms" (1945), "Lenin places" (1946).

Worked in publishing houses: Lenizdat, children literature; illustrated books "Starukha" and "Chelkash" А. М. Горького (1947), "on the Eve" (1947), "Fathers and sons" (1950) И. С. Тургенева "What to do?" Н. Г. Чернышевского (1948), "Russian novel of the nineteenth century" (1950), "Tarantas" В. А. Сологуба (1951), "Village", "Migrants" Д. В. Григоровича (1952-1953), "After the ball" Л. Н. Толстого (1958) and others. In 1957 был awarded the title of honored art worker of the RSFSR.

From 1929 — participant of exhibitions (exhibition of paintings by Moscow and Leningrad artists dedicated to the 25th-летию artistic and pedagogical activities of Professor Д. Н. Кардовского in Moscow). He exposed his works at exhibitions: paintings by Leningrad artists (1935), "Young artists of the RSFSR" (1941), works by Leningrad artists during the great Patriotic war (1942) in Moscow, 1-й exhibition of Leningrad artists (1935), Autumn exhibition of Leningrad artists (1936) in Leningrad, the exhibition of Soviet art prints (1941), "Leningrad in days of blockade" (1943) in Perm and others. Held personal exhibitions in Leningrad (1947) and Kuibyshev (1949). A retrospective exhibition of the artist (together with Д. М. Астаповой) passed in 2009 в Petersburg.
