From the priest's family. Studied in MUZHVZ (1870-е) А. К. Саврасова and В. Д. Поленова the Imperial Academy of arts (1881-1888) П. П. Чистякова. During the years of study was awarded a small (1883) and large (1884, 1885) silver medals. In 1885 окончил scientific course. In 1888, for the painting "Socrates talks in prison before dying" received a small gold medal and the title of class artist 1-й degree.

Lived In Murom. Worked as a landscape painter, genre painter, created compositions on historical subjects, studied photography. Was close to the Wanderers. Participated in the decoration of churches in Tver and Vladimir provinces. Collaborated in the magazine "Niva". He taught drawing at a girls ' school in Murom (1892-1918). In 1918-1919 выступил one of the organizers of the courses of painting and drawing for educational institutions Murom.

Fleeing famine, in 1920 together with his family moved to the village Lada Samara province.

Exhibition of works Cerebroscope took place in Murom (1984), Moscow (2009).

Work is represented in several Museum collections, including the Murom historical and-художественном the Museum.
