born in the family official. From 1827 he studied at the IAH at the architectural department. In 1831 due to changes in the Charter of the IAH was excluded from enrollment. In 1833 at the request of Ivan Martos readmitted to the Academy of Sculpture Department, from 1836 he studied at the SI Galberga. During the study received all existing academic awards: in 1835 - a small silver medal for sculpting from life, in 1837 - a large silver medal for figure depicting a sleeping boy and a small silver medal for sculpting from life, in 1838 - more silver and small gold medals for the program "David playing before Saul on the harp" (relief). In 1839 he was awarded a large gold medal IAH and a special gold medal "for the expression" for the sculpture "Boy, udyaschy fish (Fisherman). In the same year, released from the Academy with the certificate of degree 1 for the title of class artist and the right of a pensioner's travel abroad for six years.

Stavasser - one of the greatest Russian sculptors of the mid-XIX century, the representative of academic art. The period of his active creative activity is extremely small - only about ten years, and artistic heritage is small. Individual style formed under the influence of the greatest masters of late Classicism - Galberga and Thorvaldsen. Artworks are inherent in a calm measured rhythm and balance of composition, they are built on the combination of "ancient nobility of forms with genuine vitality, beauty in the production of shapes and smooth lines with the meaningfulness of expression." Favorite was a marble sculptor's material, which allows modeling the form of soft delicate light and shade.

Among the best works Stavassera include portrait busts of the architect FI Eppinger, General Rajewski, Count Vilegorskogo, artist VI Sternberg, as well as round the sculpture "Mermaid "" Satyr and Nymph ».
