the Son of a serf Senator И. П. Поливанова. Original art education received at the School of drawing in relation to art and crafts (1842-1843; Stroganov school). Studied in muzhv (1843-1847) Ф. С. Завьялова. In 1847, for drawing from nature was awarded the Imperial Academy of arts a silver medal and received the title of class artist. Volnoslushayuschego was a disciple of the Imperial Academy of arts (1848-1850) in the class of historical painting in А. Т. Маркова. In 1850, for the painting of the Saints of the anteroom of the Grand Kremlin Palace was awarded a silver medal. Diploma for the title of class artist received in muzhv, deprived him of his right to compete for gold medals. In 1851 for the portrait of the rector of the Imperial Academy of arts А. И. Мельникова awarded the title of academician. In 1853 he wrote the painting "Skirmish with Finnish smugglers", who in 1856 the first acquisition П. М. Третьякова. Was one of the first friends Tretyakov among artists and its permanent correspondent.

In the early 1850-х participated in the paintings of St. Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg, the temple of Topornino estate in Simbirsk province (1851-1852), a rural Church in the estate of Prince М. В. Кочубея in Saratov province (1852-1853), the temple in Tula cadet corps (1854-1855).

In 1856-1860 has toured Germany, France, Italy. Lived mainly in Rome and Naples. In 1860 he returned to Russia; in the same year for the painting "the ball Game", performed in Italy, received the title of Professor.

Worked as a genre painter, portraitist, landscape painter, wrote compositions on historical and biblical subjects. Member of the "Pyatnitsky drawing evenings" at the Society for encouragement of artists. In the summer of 1845, together with И. П. Поливановым traveled along the Volga on a sailing boat. In 1868 he toured the South-западу Russia; visited Grodno, where he studied the life of Jews. In 1869 вновь traveled along the Volga, collecting material for the painting "the Captive Queen Suyumbike leaving Kazan".

Participated in academic exhibitions (1849-1870, with interruptions), exhibitions of the muzhv (1860, 1862).

Retrospective exhibitions of the artist were organized in Ulyanovsk, Russia in 1876 and 2001.

Khudyakov's Works are in many Museum collections, including the State Tretyakov gallery, the State Russian Museum, Ulyanovsk regional art Museum, Kiev Museum of Russian art and others.
