Biographical details are scarce. He grew up in a Jewish settlement in the south-west of Ukraine. It seems that art education was under the leadership of his father - an artist-decorator interiors. In 1907 he moved to the United States. He lived in New York and Chicago, since 1922 - in Los Angeles.

Already being in exile, took up painting. In the 1920's - early 1930's went through a fascination with expressionism, painted landscapes, paintings on the theme of life in New York suburbs, patriarchal Jewish towns in Russia. Since 1935 studied sculpture; served from wood abstract pieces of various sizes - from the desktop to the two-meter chamber.

In 1931-1934 he lived in France, created a cycle of works devoted to the Paris circus. In the early 1940's, influenced by the events of World War II, in particular the concentration camps, carried out an extensive series of naturalistic Perov drawings depicting human figures in agony.

In 1940-50's turned to abstract painting.

Held solo exhibitions in Los Angeles (1931, 1943, 1946, 1965), Pasadena (1954).
