Painter, draughtsman, miniaturist

the Son of a painter-миниатюриста П.-Э. von Rockstyle. Original art education,-видимому, was under the guidance of the father: early works of the artist already dated 1810-ми years. He studied at the Imperial Academy of arts (1832-1835) as volnoprihodyaschim student; may have been a disciple П. Росси. In 1835 "for known progress on miniature painting" received the title neklassnogo (free) artist. In 1840 "by known talents and labours in painting miniature watercolor" was awarded the title of academician in 1864 recognized the Professor.

Lived in St. Petersburg. Worked mainly on the orders of the Imperial court. 1863 — court painter. Repeatedly executed the portraits of Alexander I and Elizaveta Alekseevna, Nikolay I and Alexandra Feodorovna, Alexander II and Maria Alexandrovna; created posthumous portraits of Catherine II, Paul I; portraits of Grand Dukes Mary, Anna, Helena, Constantine Pavlovich, the Russian crown Prince Nikolai Alexandrovich.

he was the curator of the Museum Tsarskoye Selo Arsenal; made the album of watercolors depicting the interiors of the Arsenal and arms.

he was Buried at Volkov Lutheran cemetery in St. Petersburg.

Work is represented in many Museum collections, including the Hermitage, the Russian Museum А. С. Пушкина State Tretyakov gallery, State Historical Museum, State Museum А. С. Пушкина and others.
