from 1801 studied at the Second Cadet Corps in St. Petersburg. Released early in 1811 with the rank of second lieutenant. Served Tarnopolsky Infantry Regiment 27 th Infantry Division. Took part in the Patriotic War of 1812. During the battle of Borodino was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir the 3rd degree with a bow.
Systematic arts education is not received. According to family legend, during a stay of the regiment in Paris first developed oil paints, spent much time in the Louvre. In the early 1850's created an image for the iconostasis of churches of St. Nicholas and St. Vladimir in Sebastopol, ceiling lamps, door medallions and desyudeporty in the mansion of Princess ZI Yusupova in Liteyny Avenue in St. Petersburg .
In Maikov Petersburg house on Sadovaya Street has one of the most famous literary salons of 1840 - 1850.
Maikova works are in several museum collections, including the State Russian Museum, State Tretyakov Gallery and others.
