he Studied in cheder. In 1905 посещал private art school А. Е. Сабатовского in Kiev. Worked at a cannery. In 1912 приехал in Paris. He studied at the académie de La Grande chaumière and the School Ф. Коларосси. Studied sculpture under the guidance of artist and art critic М. Шварца. Closer to П. Кременем, А. Модильяни, Х. Сутиным and other artists of Montparnasse.

In 1926 женился on Faith Kremer — daughter of the prominent Jewish leader and founder of the party of the Bund Arkadi Kremer. In 1928-1932 подолгу lived with father-in-law in Vilno.

he Painted portraits, landscapes, still lifes. During the First World war he joined the foreign Legion, but was discharged. Collaborated in the literary-художественной group "Through" (1924). In 1930-е achieved wide fame.

In the Second World war by hiding with friends in the Dordogne. About 1950 работал by the order of the founders of a private orphanage "Flower field" in the Maisons-Лафит Serge and Rachel Pludermacher; has executed a series of portraits of children whose parents died in concentration camps.

Exhibited in the salons of Independent (1914, 1936), Autumn (1920), the Tuileries (1930-е). Participated in the exhibition of Russian art in London (1921), in the exhibitions organized by the journal "the number of" in gallery "L Epoque" (1931, 1932), in the exhibition of the magazine "Our Union" in the gallery "Zak" (1936), in the group exhibition of Russian artists in the gallery "Le Cardan" (1939), in exhibitions arranged by the Committee "France — USSR" XIV arrondissement of Paris (1945) and the Union of Soviet patriots (1946, "In honor of the Victory"), "Russian artists of Paris school" (1961).

Held personal exhibitions in galleries "Charpentier" (1938), "Bosc" (1947), "Vidal" (1956), "Rimon" (1971) in Paris, the gallery "Renel" in London.

Posthumous exhibitions were held in Paris galleries: "Bassano" (1973), "Pascal" (1975), "the Nevers" (1980); at the salon de la Rose Croix (1982, 1984).
