the Son of Nikolai Konstantinovich Roerich and Helena Ivanovna Shaposhnikova, the great-granddaughter М. И. Кутузова. In 1914-1916 he studied at the school К. И. Мая in St. Petersburg, where he received initial art education. At the same time studied painting and drawing under the guidance of his father; copied paintings of the old masters, performed theatrical scenery. In December 1916 with her parents and brother Yury travelled to Serdobol (Sortavala) on the Ladoga lake. In may 1918, the family was cut off from the Russian Finnish border; in September 1920 he moved to the United States.

Lived in new-Йорке. In the early 1920-х studied at the Royal Academy of arts in London, he attended classes at the architectural Department of Columbia University in new-Йорке, in the Higher architectural school of Harvard University, sculpting courses at mit in Boston. He helped his father in the design of performances for the Chicago Opera, particularly the operas "the snow maiden" (1920), "Sadko" (1922) Н. А. Римского-Корсакова, "Prince Igor" А. П. Бородина.

From 1920-х became an associate Н. К. Рериха also in civic endeavors: directed the Institute of United arts, International art centre "World Crown" (Corona Mundi)in new-Йорке, Association "Burning heart" in Chicago; was Vice-президентом Museum Н. К. Рериха in new-Йорке. Went to USA with lecture tours.

In 1922-1923 with his parents and brother made a trip to Northern India during which he executed numerous landscapes of the Himalayas. In 1930 went back to India and finally settled near his father, in the Kullu valley (foothills of Himalayas). He was married to the bollywood star Devika Rani.

he Painted mainly landscapes of India, scenes from the life of Indian peasants, allegorical compositions in a manner close to the style of paintings of the father. Author paintings: "Japan" (1934), "Little sister", "Exploit" (both — 1938), "Procession" (1942), "Dussera. Kulu" (1944), "mahogany" (1950), "the Clay takes the form (Potter's House)", "These colors never fade" (both — 1964), "Autumn smell of the sun" (1971). Executed a number of portraits — Н. К. Рериха (1928, 1933, 1934, 1937), J. Nehru (1942), Д. Рани (1951), С. Радхакришнана (1958).

From 1960-80-е repeatedly visited the USSR. Was awarded the order of joules. Nehru for his contribution to the strengthening of Indian-советской of friendship, 1984 — is the order of Friendship of peoples. Honorary member of the Academy of arts of the USSR (1978).

participated in various exhibitions in new graphics-Йорке, the international exhibition in Philadelphia (1926, silver medal), the exhibition of contemporary Russian art in Philadelphia (1932). Has held many personal exhibitions in Leningrad (1960, 1975), Moscow (1960, 1972, 1974, 1984).
