"Revolution. The First Volley. Ivan Vladimirov — witness a difficult time"

From 10 to 28 February at the Museum of contemporary history of Russia will host an exhibition of artist Ivan Vladimirov

Ivan Vladimirov — master of the realist school, the author of a series of documentary sketches of 1917-1918.

Ivan Vladimirov was a witness to many historical events of the XX century: from the Russian-японской before the great Patriotic war. The individuality of the artist is expressed in his thin, aristocratic sense of humor and talent without any of the grotesque to Express sarcasm towards what is happening in post-revolutionary Russia. Smile of the artist is so thin and sarcastic, and can easily be compared with the Transfiguration Professor of Bulgakov's novel "heart of a Dog". It is not surprising that during the Soviet Russia, the artist remained known to the public through documentary work, describing the events of 1917-1918, the same pattern in a different mood, a different attitude to the Soviet power for a long time remained unknown and belong to private collections.

From 10 to 28 February 2017 for the first time on the site of the Museum of contemporary history of Russia the audience will be presented over fifty written in the first half of the twentieth century Vladimirov paintings from the Museum collection and a private collection.

"Our Museum until 1998 was called the Museum of the revolution, so for us, the centennial anniversary of the great Russian revolution – special date", — says General Director of the Museum of contemporary history of Russia Irina Velikanova, noting that the idea of creating the Museum appeared in 1917, so 2017 for the Museum of contemporary history of Russia "also is a kind of jubilee." The Exhibition "Revolution. The First Volley. Difficult time the eyes of the artist Ivan Vladimirov" will be the first exhibition prepared by the Museum in the framework of the events dedicated to the centennial of the revolution of 1917.

VLADIMIROV, Ivan Alexeyevich (29 December 1869, Vilna — December 14, 1947, Leningrad)
Painter and graphic artist. Known as a painter of the realistic school in painting, the painter and the author of a series of documentary sketches 1917—1918 years. Father, Alex Porfirievich, at one time worked as a librarian at the Moscow English club, which was located in the building that now holds the Museum of contemporary history of Russia. Original art education Vladimirov received at the Vilnius drawing school I. P. Trutnev. He graduated from St.-Петербургское the military school (1895), however-за of sickness leave military service. In 1891-1893 he studiedat IAH in the class at the battle BP Villevalde, F. A. Roubaud, A. D. Kivshenko. During the period of study was repeatedly awarded with medals: in 1891 he received a small and two large silver medals, in 1892 — small silver. In 1893 he was awarded the title of class artist of 2-й degree for the painting "Dressing station during the Caucasian war," in 1897 — the title of class artist 1-й degree for the painting "the Defeat of Adygei on the river Malka". When he was a student travelled to the Crimea and the Caucasus, in mountain villages, where he completed many sketches and etudes. In 1897 he worked in the Studio E. Detaile in Paris.

Lived in St. Petersburg (Petrograd — Leningrad). He worked as a painter, genre painter, landscape painter. Served as an art correspondent on the fronts of the Russo-японской war (1904-1905), the Balkan wars (1912-1913), First world war (1914-1917).

Participated in the revolutionary movement. Executed from nature a few sketches of V. I. Lenin. He painted scenes of the revolutionary history ("Barricade in Presnya. 1905", "Down with the eagle!", "The arrest tsarist generals", "Lenin at the rally, the Flight of the bourgeoisie from Novorossiysk", "Liquidation of Wrangel's landing"). In 1917-1918 he worked in the Petrograd militia, and this experience became the source of many stories: "the Russian clergy for forced labor," "Interrogation in the Committee of the poor", "In the cellars of the Cheka", "Petrograd. Moving evicted families," etc.

Participated in exhibitions of the society of artists to them. A. I. Kuindzhi (1917, 1918, 1927, 1930), Spring exhibitions in the halls of the Academy of arts (1918), TPHV (1918), the society of Russian watercolors (1918), Association of artists (1922, 1923), First state free exhibition of works of art (1919), exhibition of paintings of Petrograd artists of all directions (1923), the jubilee exhibition of fine arts (1927), exhibition of "Socialist construction in the visual arts" (1931) and others. A member and Exhibitor AHRR (1924-1929).

during the great Patriotic war I served propaganda posters. In 1946 he was awarded the title of honored artist of the RSFSR; awarded the order of Labor red banner and medals.

Vladimirov's Works are in many Museum collections, including the State Tretyakov gallery, State Russian Museum, several regional museums.
