Today, April 23, at the Center for Contemporary Culture Garage "for the first time in Moscow to open a personal exhibition of one of the most famous artists of the world - Mark Rothko . It will include the largest collection of works by artists from private collections.

Exhibition "Mark Rothko: The unknown world" will present more than a dozen scenic paintings, covering twenty years of his work (1949-1969) . These include not only the world-famous painting «№ 12", written by the artist in 1954, but also sketches of such famous monumental Rothko projects like murals for the Seagram Building, a skyscraper (New York), Holyoke Center at Harvard University (Cambridge, Mass.) and the chapel of the University of St. Thomas (Houston, Texas). In addition, it will be shown and one of the last works of Rothko, in gray and black tones, dated 1969 year.

Mark Rothko emigrated to the U.S. in 1913. In the years 1921-1923 studied painting at Yale University. In 1969 he was awarded an honorary doctorate of arts from Yale University. Works of Mark Rothko, are in numerous museum and private collections around the world.

most significant works Rothko retrospective screenings were held in 1998 in the National Gallery of Art (Washington), the Whitney Museum of American Art ( New York), Museum of Contemporary Art (Paris), Tate Gallery (London), at the Memorial Art Museum Kawamura and in three Japanese museums. Rothko's paintings have become a major exhibition of the exhibition season 1987/1988 at the Museum Ludwig (Cologne), and in 1978-1979 were exhibited at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York) and at two exhibitions held by the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA, New York York). In 1961 and 1970 Rothko retrospective screenings of works held in Amsterdam, Basel, Rome, Paris.

Especially to the "Center for Contemporary Culture Garage prepares catalog, which will include all of the exhibition as well as the essay of Dr. Irving Sandler, and Professor Andrei Tolstoy.
