Slovakia - a country in central Europe, and know that the Russian public or not - one of the key areas on the map of European Modernism 1920-30-ies. In the late 1920's was opened in Bratislava School of Art Crafts - Art Institute's new type of profession where the artist taught to students in terms of its functional application in modern society, where students learn technology, art, form and content - what today we call design. Among the new school teachers were graduates of schools Bauhaus in Germany and Austria, as in the course Bauhaus, as in the new school VHUTEMAS revolution in Soviet Russia, Slovakia, special attention was paid to the photo. She became one of the most important tools of new art and its creator.

The first exhibition from the cycle «Slovak photography XX - XXI centuries» represents the creativity of teachers and students «Bratislava Bauhaus», as contemporaries called a school of artistic crafts. The exhibition shows the work of Milos Dognanya (Miloš Dohnány), the famous pupil of European avant-gardist Jaromir Funke (Jaromír Funke). Dognan was not only a good student who adopted the perspective and the dynamics of the teacher, but became a vivid painter сочетавшим contemporary songs with themes of old Bratislava, which rounded life, slowly and slowly, as if there was not a First World War, no revolutions.

Blyuhova Irena (Irena Bluhová) and Ladislav Foltyn (Ladislav Foltyn) finished the German Bauhaus. In the subjects of their pictures taken on his return home, were sealed Slovakia, as it was in the 1930's. Young people living in the capital, taught in the school's new art, but not limited to Bratislava - the whole country was living «in an old-style»: Sunday in the downtown festivities come to the farmers market in national clothes, home decor, without with large windows - in the style of functionalism - built with new houses, but with a stucco molding-style passing al-Nouveau (art nouveau); countries remain agrarian ... Looking at the photo Blyuhovoy and Foltyna think that dynamic young artists are trying to speed up the rhythm of their imagery reality, make it change more and visibility.

Photos Malik (Viliam Malík) were born at the crossroads of several arts, which he is simultaneously engaged in: architecture, sculpture, painting and photography. For the last Malik - continued formal searches of all new art, a conversation in the language of modernism, as distinct from each artist of any European country. Without the transfer.

This exhibition - the beginning of the twentieth century Slovak photographs. Prior to generation Dognanya, Blyuhovoy, Foltyna and Malik addressed the art scene, photography in Slovakia was outside the territory of modern art, it was technology, document history, but no new art. New modernist photography has identified the significance of the Slovak photographs in some European schools.

Cycle «Slovak photography XX - XXI century» is divided into six exhibition marking the periods and areas of photos of XX - beginning of the twenty-first century in which photography became the Slovak visible phenomenon in the history of Europe and the world of photography.
