Goya and his followers in Zaragoza
In the Spanish city of Zaragoza is an exhibition of works of Francisco Goya, as well as prominent artists of the XIX and XX centuries, having its effect
exhibition devoted to works of Francisco Goya and showing his influence on artists of the XIX and XX centuries, has opened recently in the Museum of Zaragoza. It is called «Goya and the modern world» and includes 345 works, 138 of which were created the famous Spanish master.
In addition to the masterpieces of Goya, among them such famous works as the portraits of Gaspar de Hovelyanosa, marquise de Lazan and «thrush from Bordeaux», sometimes referred to as the forerunner of French Impressionism, the exhibition presents works of famous authors of the XIX century: Eugene Delacroix (Eugene Delacroix), Theodore Zheriko (Theodore Gericault), Édouard Manet (Edouard Manet) and Vincent van Gogh (Vincent van Gogh). Visitors can also see works by artists of the XX century: Karel Appel (Karel Appel), Salvador Dali (Salvador Dali), Alberto Giacometti (Alberto Giacometti), Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (Ernst Ludwig Kirchner), Joan Miro (Joan Miro) and Pablo Picasso ( Pablo Picasso).
The exhibition is divided into six parts: «Portraits», «Episodes of life», «Stupidity», «Grotesque», «cruelty» and «Creek». In each of these works of Goya are available on a particular topic, but adjacent to them are the work of other artists of the XIX and XX centuries. So organizers of the exhibition tried to show the profound and significant impact that the work of the great Spanish painter and engraver has not only on contemporary art, but also the culture at large.
Pictures for the exhibition came from 18 countries worldwide. Most of them had been received from France - from the collections of the National Library and the Louvre. Works by Goya also provided the Uffizi Gallery (Florence), the Metropolitan Museum and MoMA (New York). A significant contribution to the exhibition, of course, made a museum in Spain - the home of Artists: The National Center for the Arts Queen Sofia National Museum and the Prado Museum Thyssen-Bornemissa.
The exhibition is open to visitors until March 2009.
