The Museum of Fine Arts of Nice hosts exhibition dedicated to 150 anniversary of the artist and writer, author of the famous «Diary» Mary Konstantinovna Bashkirtsevoy .

Bashkirtseva was born, apparently in 1858 in the village Gavrontsy of Poltava. (Exact date not known, and often listed 1859 and 1860. The studies in recent years shed light on the family secrets.) Family life parents of Mary was not very happy, and they separated two years after the wedding. She brought up his mother and grandfather, brilliantly educated man and Anglomania. In ten years the age of Mary and her mother left for Europe two years later settled in Nice. At thirteen years old girl brought the diary, which with startling emotional honesty, and telling about all the events in his life, on travel, on the performances and concerts, which she visited, read about books, about friends and acquaintances. There she was, all his thoughts about life and art. Diary Bashkirtseva continued until his death: the end of her short life, he had 16 volumes.

From early childhood, Mary was possessed Bashkirtseva thirst for knowledge. In order to read the works of classic literature, she learned the language of four living and two dead. It played beautifully on the guitar, piano, harp and mandolin, and dreamed of becoming a singer. But because of the serious illness of throat she had to leave the dreams of the stage. She decided to become a painter and in 1877 entered the well-known private academy Juliane (Académie Julian). But were those who suspected Bashkirtsevu fraud: in those days, when women artists were more than skeptical, many could not believe that all of his paintings the artist has written herself. In its short life of Maria managed to create over 150 paintings. Fantastic voltage painter could not but affect her health. Maria Bashkirtseva to paint in the style of realism. Her teacher was the famous painter Jules Bastien-Lepage (JulesBastien-Lepage), which is so loved his student that, even when very ill, asked his friends to wear it in the house Bashkirtsevyh. Many critics pointed out the inner light and warmth which marked all her work.

Unfortunately, most of the paintings, the artist has been destroyed. After the death of her mother Bashkirtsevoy carried the painting to the Ukraine, where in 1917 most of them burned. Others died in the bombing in 1941. But some pictures Bashkirtsevoy still preserved. She became the first Russian artist whose work has gained the Louvre. Her works are in collections of such museums as the Museum d'Orse in Paris and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

Blog Bashkirtsevoy was published in 1887 in France and made the present furor. With the publication of these revelations, many records of women artists have gained a new «impetus for action». In 1891, letters were published by Mary Bashkirtsevoy, including correspondence with the famous French writer Guy de Mopassanom (GuydeMaupassant). Art critic VS Turchin says that familiarity with the revelations Bashkirtsevoy had a decisive influence on many of Russian art, in particular Vasily Kandinsky . Bashkirtseva was present «Amazons». She is often surprised and even shocked her male talent, his hard work and independence, and frankly feminist perspective on gender relations. In 1881 Bashkirtseva (under the pseudonym Pauline Orrel (PaulineOrrel)) has written several articles for the feminist newspaper LaCitoyenne. One of her famous quotes - «Let us love dogs, let us love only dogs! Men and Cats - despicable substance ». «I am not looking for anybody, because I think that men should be accessories to the lives of strong women», - she wrote Guy de Mopassanu.

Mary Bashkirtsevu feel «their» French, Russian, Ukrainian. 150 anniversary of the birth of the museum of Nice notes in a big way. The exhibition devoted to Bashkirtsevoy, exhibited her paintings and diaries, as well as drawings and personal effects belonging to artist, including items such as porcelain bonbonerka with her portrait. Simultaneously with the exhibition will be held lectures and conferences, and will show drama «Intimate Diary of Mary Bashkirtsevoy», prepared by Metamorph 'Theatre /LaSemeuse. The museum can also see pictures of artists associated with Bashkirtsevoy - Jules Bastienne-Lepage, Louise Breslau (LouiseBreslau), Anna Nordgren (AnnaNordgren).

The exhibition will run until January 11, 2009.
