the work of the "Peasant village house" refers to the early work of van Gogh belongs to a series of 12 pastoral compositions. Over this series the artist worked in the summer of 1885, during a vacation in the small town of Nuenen in the Eastern part of the Netherlands.

Experts tend estimate this landscape as the most successful and large size work created by the artist in the so-called Dutch period of his work, however, in addition to the size and the aesthetic, this painting stands and provenance.

From the letters of Vincent to his brother Theo knows that soon after the creation, in July 1885, the painting was sent by van Gogh in the Hague in payment of the debt to the seller of paints and canvases, which services were used by the artist. In 1920-х years the work came from the Hague in Britain, where in 1929, she again paid for the debts: this time it was given to the owner of the farm Billington John Hill. Long time landscape with farm house decorated a nursery in the house, but then the inhabitants of the house, he got tired and was sent to the attic, where he lay for a few decades. In 1968 when the sale of all assets of the farm clump managed to sell over £4 as a work by an unknown artist. A few months later, in London, in a junk shop landscape was bought by Luigi Grosso for £45.

Being the signature "Vincent" in the corner of the canvas, Grosso turned to the experts and received confirmation that in his hands was the work of van Gogh, he sold it in 1970 for $110 thousand at Sotheby's. Since 1970 the painting has appeared at auction three more times, each time with success finding a new buyer at a higher price. The last owner purchased it in 2001 for $1.7 million

As it became known, on March 9, "Peasant woman in a village house" found a new owner. According to Emma ward, managing Director of the London gallery Dickinson, on the stand which was presented to the work, the gallery was a success, according to new rules, to approve all documents and to negotiate the sale of the paintings for €15 million

the name of the buyer was not disclosed, we only know that it is a private person. As of March 10 is still the major transaction made at the fair this year.

However, the record of van Gogh, can still be beaten: before closing TEFAF Maastricht 2020 there are still five days. This year fair from 7 to 15 March.
