Today this work is considered the only self-portrait created by the artist in the period of exacerbation of his illness

This self-portrait was in the collection of the national Museum of art architecture and design Oslo, from 1910, however, the last half-century, 1970-х years, the authenticity of the work was in question. And so this past Monday the experts of the van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam finally put an end to this issue, affirming that "without a doubt" belongs to the artist's hand.

Dated August 1889 self-portrait you'll be a frozen, lifeless expression of the artist and not the typical dreary greenish-коричневой colors.

experts of the Museum of Amsterdam noted that "a self-portrait from Oslo depicts a person under mental illness. His view of the audience — is not straight, shy and like a twist — unmistakably recognisable by the numerous pictures of people suffering from depression and other mental diseases".

it is Known that van Gogh suffered one of the episodes of his illness in 1889 in a small clinic Saint-Реми in France, where he was in may and was at least a month and a half.

Perhaps the writing of this self-portrait was the artist's attempt to come to terms with their own painful condition.

the Experts also believe that, most likely, it is about this work the artist wrote to his brother Theo in a letter, telling about "trying to create a self-portrait" during treatment in the clinic.

According to representatives of the Museum of Oslo, cited The Guardian, the experts, taking the work on research in 2014-м year, warned that "the result is you may not like it and that it is likely that finally the authenticity of the work cannot be installed". So the result obtained by specialists in the study of paintings, can be seen as a real victory.

After just two weeks after writing the studied "self-Portrait" by van Gogh created two very well-known today self-portrait: one of them is now kept in Paris in the Musee d'orsay, the other — at the National gallery in Washington. Considering these three jobs at the same time, you can clearly see how the man comes alive and is recovering after a serious illness.

Today the "self" from Oslo is still in the van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. From February 21, you can see it there at the exhibition "In the picture", and then work back to Norway. In Oslo, the picture will become part of the permanent exhibition of the new space of the National Museum of architecture, art and design, whose opening is planned for spring 2021.
