Drawings Alexander Pavlovich Bubnov know the millions of readers who grew up on the wonderful books of publishing house "Children's literature".

the exhibition presents sketches to the Grand cycle of illustrations to Pushkin's poem "the Song of wise Oleg" (not so much illustrations as an independent artistic works, written under the impression of the epic poem), sketches of illustrations to the tragedy "Boris Godunov", "the Night before Christmas" and "Haidamaks" N. V. Gogol, to the "General Toptygin" N. Nekrasov — a total of about 40 works Bubnova (1930-50-х years) from the collection of the gallery "vellum" and the personal collection of Creator gallery Lubov Agafonova.

According to the collector, this exhibition gives you the opportunity to see the seemingly familiar and the familiar childhood fairy tale images of our own mythological heroes and to understand the true scale of talent Alexander Pavlovich Bubnov, his close connection with the classical Russian culture.

Born in 1908, and expressing himself as an artist in the Soviet state, Alexander Bubnov rightfully is among such great predecessors as the creators of unique artistic images of Russian mythology, Ivan Bilibin and Viktor Vasnetsov, as an artist and religious philosopher Mikhail Nesterov, who embodied the aesthetics of "Russian spirit".

Future artist — peasant boy — drawing fascinated since childhood: his sketches in pencil, charcoal — steppe landscapes, human figures, and animals. School art teacher drew the boy's history and local history, in 1919 the students go on excavations of burial mounds and settlements in the vicinity of Aktorska where write sketches and at the same time carried out archaeological excavations. Executed in a realistic, with elements of expression manner of bright contrasting colors, bubnovskogo cycle "the Song of wise Oleg" enchant with their magic. "The Magus" wandering densewoods with a stick, — harsh and infernal: he is a carrier of ancient knowledge, a closed and unapproachable, evoking a sense of horror. Oleg, giving food to the beloved horse, — embodiment of knightly prowess, he is belligerent and soft at the same time. "Here goes the mighty Oleg from the yard / With him, Igor and the old guests" — this episode Bubnova majestic and unsettling, nature and the riders froze in anticipation of the mysterious, and only a turbulent orange sky. In this poetry, each leaf piece is breathtaking and draws the viewer into the space of Pushkin's stanzas.

Alexander Bubnov and was an acknowledged master of landscape painting, worked in the open air throughout life. He created works that can be confidently called one of the finest examples of Moscow schools and a continuation of the creative experiments of Konstantin Korovin. The exhibition will feature landscapes by Alexander Bubnov, written in 1930-50-х.
