BULGAKOV Boris

Painter, graphic artist

was born in a family navigating coastal trade P. Bulgakov. In 1902, was enrolled in the Third Kiev school, after which in 1913 entered the Kiev Imperial University of St. Vladimir, worked first at the medical school, then - the history and philology. In August 1916 left a volunteer at the front. For participation in hostilities was the personal nobility, was awarded two crosses of St. George.

In 1921-1926 he studied in the Second State of art of free workshops - Higher Art (one course with A. Deineko and Goncharov) in D. Kardovsky, NN Kupreyanova, VA Favorsky.

lived in Moscow. He worked as an easel to book illustration, ex libris. Collaborated with publishers Detgiz, "Young Guard", Uchpedgiz. He performed the illustrations for the book "Not Lubo not listen. Folk Tale "(1927) and others.

Since 1925 - participant of exhibitions. In 1926-1932 - member of the Society of Easel, participant 2 nd, 3 rd and 4 th Exhibition OST (1926, 1927, 1928). Exhibited his work the exhibition "Russian bookplate in the engraving" in Leningrad (1925), exhibition of prints and drawings of masters Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Russia and Ukraine in Kiev (1928) and others. Participant in several international exhibitions and exhibitions of Soviet art abroad, including international exhibitions of book art in Leipzig, Nuremberg (1927), Cologne (1928), the exhibition of Russian art in Winterthur (1929), the World's Fair in Chicago (1933).

In mid-1930 was subjected to charges of formalism, and then concentrated on work in the field of book graphics. For many years, served as chairman of the Moscow City Committee of Graphic Artists.

Bulgakov's works are in several museum and private collections.
