Of Old Believer merchant family, elder brother of the artist Konstantin Korovin. In adolescence took private lessons at home with IM Pryanishnikova and L. Kamenev. In 1875 entered MUZhViZ, worked with Perov, AK Savrasov, Pryanishnikova, Vladimir Makovsky. In 1879, a picturesque sketch from nature, and in 1881 for drawing from nature small awarded silver medals. In mid-1880 attended evening drawing in the house VD Polenov. In 1886 he graduated from college with the title of the class artist. Soon he was invited to teach at MUZhViZ, where he worked intermittently in 1888-1894, then 1898-1908.

In the early 1880 traveled to the Volga, in 1887-1888 was accompanied by Sumy Hussars on maneuvers, in 1893 traveled to Germany and France.

In 1894, he attended the First Congress of Russian Artists and Art Lovers. In the same year the painting "At Peace" (1893), was exhibited at the 21 th exhibition TPHV, acquired in his collection of P. Tretyakov. In 1900-1908 he worked on the panel "Kulikovo" for the Historical Museum (not implemented). In 1908 he died suddenly of heart failure.
