he Studied at the mathematical faculty of Moscow University (1905-1906), in School К. Ф. Юона and И. О. Дудина (1905-1906), in MUZHVZ (1907-1912): first at the painting Department at К. А. Коровина and then the sculpture at С. М. Волнухина. In 1913-1914 жил abroad — in Germany, Italy, France, Austria, Greece. In Paris he took lessons from Э.-А. Бурделя at the Academy "Grand-Шомьер" (1913).

From 1915 жил in Moscow. Participated in the implementation of the plan of monumental propaganda; worked on projects of a memorial plaque to the Senate tower of the Kremlin (1918), monuments Г. Ибсену (1918), "emancipation of labour" (1920), В. М. Загорскому (1921), "the Call of the revolution" (1921), "Samson" for the red stadium (1921-1922) in Moscow and others. Worked at INKhUK (1920-1924), where he headed a group of "objective analysis". He worked primarily as a portraitist. The author works "М. А. Врубель" (1920), "Sailor" (1928), "the Aviator" (1929), "М. В. Фрунзе" (1930), "В. И. Ленин" (1933), "the Stakhanovite (Slayer)" (1937). In late 1910-х — early 1920-х were engaged in propaganda poster.

From 1913 — participated in exhibitions. Member of the Association AHRR — akhr (1926-1929). One of the organizers of the Association "the Monolith". Exhibited: Association "World of art" (1913, 1917), drawings by contemporary Russian sculptors (1925), "Red Army in Soviet art", works of revolutionary and Soviet themes, "Socialist construction in Soviet art" (all — 1930), "Artists of the RSFSR for XV years" (1933-1934) "the high Mountain regions of the USSR" (1936), "Heroic front and rear" (1945) in Moscow, 1-й state exhibition of art and science in Kazan (1920) and others. Held a personal exhibition in Moscow (1965).

he Taught in his own sculpture workshop in Moscow (1915-1917), 1-х State free art workshops — VKhUTEMAS — Vhuteine (1918-1930), in the Highest architectural-строительном school (1930-1933), the Moscow polygraphic Institute (1942-1943), MARCHI (1944-1963), Professor.

the Works are in many Museum collections, including the State Tretyakov gallery and others.
