son of a landowner. Original art education in a real school in Orel, a PG Nekrasov and Savelova. In 1882-1888 he studied at MUZHVZ in E. Sorokin, S. Ivanov, IM Pryanishnikova, VD Polenov, V. Makovsky, KV Lebedeva, and NV Nevrev. In 1888, he worked in Poltava, under the leadership of G. Myasoedova.

In 1888-1915 he lived in Moscow. In the summer months went by studies in the Crimea, the Caucasus, Ukraine, in Palanga, Smolensk, Kaluga, Tula province. In 1888-1900 served as designer of the Bolshoi Theater. He worked as draftsman at a textile factory Poliakov (1911-1914), giving lessons in private schools and grammar schools (until 1911). He performed the ceiling of the auditorium Shelaputinskogo Theater in Moscow (not preserved), was engaged in painting churches and private homes.

He painted landscapes, still lifes, paintings of everyday scenes in keeping with the realistic traditions Wanderers. Participated in exhibitions of the Moscow Society of Lovers of Fine Arts (1889-1911, with interruptions, from 1894 - member MOLH) TPHV (1891-1892, 1907), Saint-Petersburg Society of Artists (1904-1915, with interruptions, a member of the Society since 1910) . In 1893 was one of the founders of the Moscow Association of Artists (exhibitions 1893-1899). In 1896, exhibited his paintings at the All-Russia industrial and agricultural exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod.

From 1915 he worked in Simbirsk, Samara, Orenburg and Semipalatinsk Provinces, which served as commissioner for the harvesting of food for the army. In 1919-1930 he lived in Pavlodar, where he led the art studio and taught drawing and painting in general educational institutions (until 1921). Since 1920 - head of a meat warehouse in Pavlodar. The sketch of the pedestal for the monument to Vladimir Lenin (1928), painting of the club Vodnikov, urban theater, working the club, creating scenery for Gosteatra in Pavlodar. After 1930 he lived in the village Boyarka near Kiev, Novosibirsk, Tula, Aleksin, since 1932 - in Kuibyshev.

In the 1920's - 1930's active participation in the exhibition activities did not take, has exhibited his works at the 2 nd exhibition of paintings of Moscow Artists (1927). Shortly before his death held a solo exhibition in Kuibyshev.

Baturin works are in many museum collections, including the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Samara Regional Art Museum and others.
