came from a poor Jewish family. In 16 years, ran away from home for some time lived in Tula, and Orel, and then settled in Odessa. In 1896-1899 he studied at the KK Kostandi in the Odessa Art School, where he obtained a medal, which provided the right to enter into IAH without examinations. From 1899 worked in the Higher School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture at IAH have I. Tvorozhnikova, VE Savinskoye, then - in the studio of Ilya Repin. In 1907, for the painting "Inspired Minute" released from the Academy with the rank of the artist and the right of a pensioner's trip abroad. In 1908 he traveled to Holland and Paris.

In 1902, back when a student, wrote in Arzamas is one of the first portraits of Maxim Gorky. Quickly gained a reputation as an excellent portrait painter, had a lot of orders. In the 1900's - 1910-s they were executed portraits of Fyodor Chaliapin, Anna Akhmatova, SA Lur'e, TP ; Karsavina, Prince SM Volkonskogo, Princess O. Orlov, Baroness YT Sheyngel and many others. In 1911 Sorin works were exhibited at the World Exhibition in Rome. In 1913, 1915 and 1917 took part in the exhibitions "World of Art in St. Petersburg (Petrograd) in 1917 - in the exhibition of the New Society of Artists in Petrograd.

After the 1917 revolution while living in Yalta, in 1918 was the exhibitor of the exhibition "Art in the Crimea." In 1919 he moved to Tiflis, where he met with S. Yu Sudeikin, V. Kamensky, NN Evreinov. Took part in the exhibition "Small Circle».

In May 1920 he emigrated by ship to Marseilles, he settled in Paris. Quickly gained fame in European art circles. Accomplished many portraits of celebrities, including Lillian Gish, Eleonora Duse, George Balanchine, Serge Polyakov, Hope Teffi, Lev Shestov, Anna Pavlova, portrayed members of the British royal family.

Often visited the U.S., had lived in New York, where he acquired the patronage of the millionaire Kohn, who introduced his work to the highest circles of American society. Sorin Solo exhibitions were held in the Brooklyn Museum (1923), Gallery "Vildenshtayn" in New York (1927, 1934), Washington (1924), Pittsburgh (1924-1925), Chicago (1927). In 1924 he helped the organization in the United States and Canada traveling exhibition of Russian art. In 1932 took part in the exhibition of contemporary Russian art in Philadelphia.

Sorin - one of the few masters of the Russian diaspora, which has achieved recognition in exile, fame and financial success. However, the artist's work is almost unknown in Russia, which can be explained by the relatively small number of his works in national museum collections. In his portraits sought precise, calligraphic similarities, always found a compositional solution that allowed him to present a model in the most favorable light "- these qualities will certainly meet the requirements of customers.
