came from a family of Polish nobility. In 1876-1878 he studied at the Physics and Mathematics Department of Warsaw University. At the same time in 1877 visited the Warsaw drawing classes. In 1879 he moved to St. Petersburg, studied at the IAH in VP Vereshchagin and VP Chistyakov - first as volnoprihodyaschego, then as a regular student. In 1880, for drawing and pictorial sketch was awarded two small silver medals in 1881 - two large silver medals in 1884 for his film "The parable of the rich man and Lazarus" was awarded a small gold coin.
